The most vibrant Hornbill festival 2024 is a 10-day annual music festival to showcase the rich culture and traditions of Nagaland. Hornbill Festival 2024 will be held on (1 to 10 December, 2024) which is organized by the State Government and Art & Culture Department. This Hornbill event is famously known as “Festival of Festivals” which displays the rich culture and traditions of Nagaland tribes as well as North-East Indian states.

The Hornbill festival goes for 10 days where almost every tribe of Nagaland participates in this festival to display their culture & traditions. The festival is full of cultural performances, dances, music, food stalls, art & crafts, exhibitions, special cuisines, native sports and games, religious ceremonies and much more. The festival is celebrated for 10 days and the everyday ends with a bonfire at night. The major attraction one of them is a Hornbill International Rock Festival where many local and International Rock Bands perform which is held at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima Nagaland.

History of Hornbill Festival Nagaland

The festival got its name from ‘Great Indian Hornbill’ and the forest bird displayed in the folklore of most of the Nagaland’s Tribes and ethnic groups. The festival was first organized by the State Tourism and Art & Culture Departments in the year 2000 as a mixture of cultural exhibitions but later this festival became more vibrant and the Government of Nagaland took up to encourage inter-tribal interaction and promote the cultural heritage of Nagaland. In 2007, the Rock Music Festival was organized on an international platform. And the celebration of this Hornbill festival becomes bigger and better every year.

How to reach Hornbill Festival 2024 ?

By Air

Nagaland has its Domestic Airport in Dimapur. The city is well connected with Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati by air. Then tourists have to travel to Kohima by road which is around 70 Km and then towards Kisama Heritage village which is around 12 Km away.

By Road

The state capital Kohima is well connected by road with major cities. You can travel to Kohima and Dimapur according to your journey and then reach Kisama, the main festival destination point.

By Train

Nagaland has a major Railway station at Dimapur, which is well connected with Guwahati and many other major cities by road. From there you can take a private taxi or public transport to reach Kohima then Kisama.

Note : Tourists should obtain the ILP (Inner Line Permit) issued by the authorities to visit.
